Artistically speaking this is a breatkthrough project for Antagonist, and a testament to his dedication to becoming a world class artist. Reconnecting with DJ Ames has not only brought a newfound energy, but also resulted in the most solid offering from these two individuals yet. Spitting relentless verses over industry beats, self-produced instrumentals, and exclusive singles Antagonist affirms himself as a viable emcee, as his production duties take a backseat on this latest disk. Starting with a remake of the Donnis' single/Adidas Commercial/Lil Wayne street single, Needlz produced "30 Minutes to New Orleans", "Feed Me Beats" starts off quickly with "30 Miles From Miami" This 3 minute solid verse sets the tone for the collage of sound to come. It is immediately apparent that Antagonist's goal is to demonstrate his vastly improved delivery, and he succeeds with shining colors. From a remake of Cannon's "Da Art of Storytellin 4.5" to the smoking posse cut "Neva Gotta Ask" Antagonist honestly eats these beats alive. It only takes a few minutes for the roots of the title "Feed Me Beats" to become utterly apparant. One of the more complete tracks on the disk, "Flight (The Prequel)" hopefully offers a preview to what is coming from Antagonist's debut retail album "Flight". Here Antagonist reworks Polow Da Don and Rich Boy's "Standing on the Couch" into a radio-worthy hook that dare's to outshine the original. A similar reworking that turns out phenomenal is on the Serani produced "Snakes" which remixes "No Love" by the producer. "Ju Kiddin Me" and "Forest Fire" are Adlib & Antagonist's best concoctions yet, and "Groovy" produced by Anno Domini shows that Ant is always at home spitting over familiar producer's beats. Even Antagonist's melodic side has gone major, and the hooks on "Cool" and "Find You" prove worthy of commerical rotation. Not only does "Feed Me Beats" showcase Antagonist's near-perfect lyrical delivery, it also displays his knack for creating concept songs, which are an essential piece to any future retail project. "PGA" is a unique ode to the ladies which conceptually takes up a golf theme, while "Vincent" conjures up the ghost of Vincent Van Gogh's pain of a tortured artist. This disk honestly contains a blueprint to Antagonist's future success. He proves he has lyrical prowess, he proves he can produce beats that sit alongside major label hits, he shows he has an eye for talent in the up-and-coming emcees he collaborates with, and he keeps getting better at all of this on every release. "Feed Me Beats" is a stellar start to 2011 for Antagonist and we're now completely looking forward to his retail offering later this year.
